Open Letter to New Heads of School

Dear New School Leader,

Starting a new role as a school leader can be overwhelming, but it's important to remember that you are not alone. As you step into this new position, you will wear many hats, some of which may not be in the job description. Congratulations on your new roles, as you are now the Pastor, Academic, Executive, Financial Officer, Strategist, Moral Officer, Cheerleader, and the biggest fan of the school and the staff.

As you embark on this journey, I'd like to offer some advice to help you navigate the first few months. Firstly, make sure to take time to listen, learn, reflect, and find a work-life balance. This first year will be a blur, but it's essential to enjoy the ride. Remember that everyone is watching you, so it's important to leverage this and show your human side by laughing and admitting when you're wrong.

It's also important to find a confidant who is not on staff and who can support you when the weight of the school is on your shoulders. Additionally, find your happy place at school where you can be yourself. Lastly, take time for yourself and find a hobby that you enjoy.

Trust yourself and your judgment, and always act in the best interest of the school. You are doing the right thing. Best of luck on this exciting new journey!

Warm regards,

-Tim
